Wei-wen Cai, chairman and chief scientist of Zhongshan Halgen Gene Technology Co, along with his colleagues, were analyzing the results of gene chip tests on a batch of baby Pacific white shrimps and soil samples in the company's laboratory located at the Torch Development Zone on January 12, and getting prepared for the third round of pond-side experiments.

In 2022, Cai applied his competitive gene chip technology to the farming of Pacific white shrimps, and the detection range was expanded to cover 17 types of shrimp pathogens.

In late 2022, Cai founded the Yingkunyuan eco-agriculture technology company in Zhongshan. In the farming base, he built industrialized, high-density aquaculture ponds, with the gene chip technology applied, to explore green cultivation. In late July 2023, the farming base achieved its first harvest with a yield of 4,500 kg per mu.

Cai is a PhD in biomolecular chemistry at New York University. His innovative research results in gene chip technology had been granted patents in the United States. He has also participated in the international Human Genome Project as a Chinese scientist.

In the new year, Cai has set a new goal to explore graded farming, hoping to enhance the utilization rate and harvest frequency of the farming ponds by innovating the cultivation methods.
