The Three-Year Action Plan for Zhongshan's Industrial Design Development (2019-2021) was recently released.

The action plan proposes the construction of 2 national industrial design centers, 18 provincial industrial design centers and 2 industrial design bases with significant radiation and driving effects by 2021. More than 50 municipal industrial design centers will be built among leading enterprises and industrial design enterprises in the manufacturing industry.

The action plan specifies three main goals: To promote the upgrading and efficiency of traditional industries, to promote the development of emerging industries, and to promote the development of service-oriented manufacturing.

Regarding traditional industries, design innovations will be carried out in such traditional industries as metalware, household appliance, furniture and home decoration, lighting, textile and clothing and beauty makeup, focusing on key aspects such as appearance modeling, functional innovation, structural optimization, energy and material conservation, and new material application, so as to enhance the competitiveness of these industries.

Regarding the promotion of the development of emerging industries, focus will be on the  generation of new information technology, equipment manufacturing, health medicine, new material, energy conservation and environmental protection, digital creativity and others. Green design will guide the development of digital and intelligent products and promote the ecology and sustainability of product designs.

Regarding the promotion of the development of service-oriented manufacturing, the action plan will promote the development of industrial design to innovative services that run throughout the entire industrial chain, and encourage enterprises to transform from production-oriented manufacturing to service-oriented, promote customized service design, improve user experience, and increase product quality.
