The national aquatic wildlife science and protection movement, lasting for a month, was started yesterday. The opening ceremony was held in Diequan Ecological Park, the provincial aquatic wildlife rescue base and the only one in Zhongshan.
Zhongshan owns one provincial natural reserve—Zhongshan Marine Ecological Zone, mainly for White Dolphin at present. Zhongshan has built a good environment for marine lives and provided a comprehensive habitation and shelter for fishes since 2003.
Zhongshan has now developed 19 aquatic wildlife farms mainly for Chinese three-striped box turtle, Asian Yellow Pond Turtle and crocodiles. For example, the first female trainer Hu Chengli has made breakthrough in crocodile raising in Diequan Ecological Park. According to Hu, the advanced crocodile-raising technology is in the leading position around the country. She is planning for the training classes to teach more people how to breed the crocodiles and make people aware of the importance of wildlife protection.
