A 31.5-kg sea turtle was found trapped in an abandoned fishing net on the inland river of Ma'an Village, Huangpu Town on June 9. Mr Huang, a local, immediately sailed to rescue the turtle with his father upon its discovery. He also called Zhongshan Marine Comprehensive Law Enforcement Team for assistance.

It was confirmed that the rescued turtle is a green sea turtle, an endangered species under category 1 protection status. It had a body length of 73 cm, a width of 52 cm, and a weight of 31.5 kg.

At present, the turtle is in healthy condition due to timely rescue. After it re-adapts to the living conditions in the wild, it will be released into the sea by the Zhongshan Marine Comprehensive Law Enforcement Team.
