The Guangdong Poverty Alleviation Overview and Commendation Video Conference was held in Guangzhou on June 23. Outstanding individuals and units in Guangdong who made contributions to poverty alleviation were commended. A total of 19 individuals in Zhongshan were awarded the Guangdong Outstanding Individual in Poverty Alleviation title and 14 units were awarded the Guangdong Outstanding Unit in Poverty Alleviation title.

"It is a great honor to be awarded as a Guangdong Outstanding Unit in Poverty Alleviation. This is an affirmation of our work in the last five years and an impetus for our future work," said Chen Xiaogang, leader of the poverty alleviation team of the Zhongshan Public Security Bureau, Zhongshan State Security Bureau and the Zhongshan Public Security Border Defense Detachment in Zacun Village, Fengcun Town, Deqing County, Zhaoqing.

Zhongshan has joined hands with 16 towns, 38 schools, 13 hospitals and 182 poverty-stricken villages in Zhaotong city, Yunnan province, and provided partner assistance to help Yanjin, Daguan, Yongshan and Suijiang counties get rid of poverty in advance in 2019, benefiting a total of 247,600 people.

An amount of 231 million yuan has been invested specifically to support Zhaoqing and Chaozhou cities in modernizing villages. A total of 333 schools and sports facility projects, 157 medical facilities, 160 cultural buildings including rural libraries and reading rooms, and 331 drinking water safety projects have been completed.
