The final of the 2020 Southern China Writing Contest was held in Zhongshan on the afternoon of December 20. Xu Leyao, a 9th-year student from Yuanyang School in East District, won the championship with her work "Cold Ushuaia", Zhang Yan won second place with "Sheep's Song", and Tan Guihua won third place with "The 'Brother-like' Couple".

A total of 28 writers from all over the country demonstrated their works which were reviewed by the audience. Both contestants and the audience enjoyed the grand event.

Xu Leyao said in an interview that she was quite surprised and very excited for winning the championship. Her essay was an exercise in composition assigned by her teacher a year before. She imagined herself as a snowflake and traveled to Ushuaia, a fairy-tale place. She said that she liked literature very much, and this award would inspire her to work even harder.
