Zhongshan has passed the national experts' evaluation, and has been rated as a China Climate Livable City, hence becoming the first prefecture-level city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) to obtain this national title, according to the Zhongshan Meteorological Bureau.

The evaluation report points out that Zhongshan has fine climate and comfortable weather for most days of the years. The report goes on to reveal Zhongshan's medium climate risk index, minor possibility of meteorological disaster, good air quality and ecological environment, diversified climate and landscape, favorable climatic conditions for tourism and vacationing, significantly increased vegetation index, and improved forest coverage rate enjoyed in recent years.

According to the evaluation standards, the indicators for Zhongshan that are at 88% or better are good or excellent ratings. The categories receiving high ratings involve climatic endowment, climatic risk, ecological environment, climatic landscape, and climatic comfortability. In addition, Zhongshan's comprehensive evaluation grade is "excellent", which corresponds with the national climatic evaluation standard of livability rating.
