The Ceremony of the 1st Guangdong Friendship Award was held recently in Guangzhou. Overseas Chinese leaders of Zhongshan Koo Yuen Kim and Xiao Xiaoquan received the awards.

Koo Yuen Kim, an honorary citizen of Zhongshan, president of the Malaysia Association for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China, president of the Zhongshan Association of Overseas Chinese Enterprises and chairman of Perfect (China) Co Ltd; and Xiao Xiaoquan, a honorary citizen of Zhongshan, honorary president of Sociedad Central de Beneficencia China and honorary adviser to the Zhongshan Association of Overseas Chinese Enterprises, have been committed to promoting friendly people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between countries where they are and Guangdong, and enhancing the friendship between the people of Guangdong and their hometown and the people of other countries. Long active in social, economic, educational and cultural fields, they have made remarkable contributions to Guangdong's economic and trade cooperation, foreign exchanges, cultural promotion, sci-tech innovation and talent cultivation.

The Guangdong Friendship Award is granted by the People's Government of Guangdong Province to the foreigners who have made remarkable contributions to Guangdong's economic and social development and foreign exchanges. A total of 49 foreign experts and international friends from 23 countries received the awards this year.
