2009-11-10

Zheng Zaoru (1824—1894), born in Haotou Village, was the 30th Ju Ren (winner of the Provincial examination) in 1851, the first year of Xian Feng Emperor in the Qing Dynasty. He was appointed the official title of Zhongshu in the cabinet (a key title of consultation for the emperor), and appreciated by Zeng Guofan and Li Hongzhang and was entrusted with the foreign affairs.

As an ambassador, he had been dispatched to America, Spain and Peru since 1881. Four years later, in 1886, because of his illness, he resigned his office in foreign missions and went back to China. In 1890, Sun Yat-sen wrote him a letter, raising his three proposals of fostering agriculture, banning opium and developing education.
